Sustainable Communities: Studying Settlement Age: 13-18
Duration: 40 minutes
Sustainable Communities
This resource provides an excellent up-to-date framework for the studying of Settlement from KS3 and GCSE through to AS and A2 level. It contains case studies for those studying: “sub-urbanised villages”, “Managing Rural Environments”, “change in urban and rural environments”, “sustainable cities”, “Sustainable futures” and ties in well with schemes of work looking at traffic and transport issues, and service and retail provision.
But most importantly, with increased emphasis in the new specifications on getting students to carry out a local study, this DVD is a good prompt, encouraging an enquiry based approach ahead of fieldwork days. It will get them thinking about their methodology, how they might evaluate and study their own locality and what questions to ask.
This DVD also contains a vast array of teaching materials written by leading geographers, including case study work-sheets, a PowerPoint presentation, lesson plans, fieldwork questionnaires and information about careers and professions open to geographers.

"It will make a good starting block for getting students to think up enquiry questions ahead of fieldworkd days", Doreen Oakley, teacher, Leeds.
